A former employee at the Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany (MCLB-Albany) and two local businessmen were sentenced Thursday for their roles in a bribery scheme related to the award of contracts for machine products that resulted in approximately $907,000 in fraudulent overcharges to the U.S. Marines, announced Acting Assistant Attorney General Mythili Raman of the Justice Department's Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Michael J. Moore of the Middle District of Georgia.

Rep. Arnel Ty of the LPG Marketeers Association on Thursday urged the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to recall what he described as "harsh truck-load restrictions" which took effect on June 1.

Ty, a member of the trade and industry committee of the House of Representatives, said the new truck-load restrictions could eventually lead to a significant higher fuel and food prices in the weeks ahead.

Carlile Transportation Systems, one of the largest trucking and logistics companies in Alaska and with a presence at South Sound ports, has been acquired by Saltchuk Resources, a Seattle-based family of diversified transportation and petroleum distribution companies.

As the country prepares for the summer season, fuel prices for both diesel and gasoline continued to climb. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), fuel prices in late May increased with diesel climbing 2.4 cents and gas going up seven cents per gallon.

The EIA says diesel in the United States averages $3.89 per gallon, which is almost seven cents less per gallon compared to last year at this time. The agency also notes that diesel prices increased in every region of the country except New England, where the price decreased almost a half cent.

California has the highest diesel prices, averaging $4.07 per gallon. The West Coast in general saw a 4.9 cent increase while the Gulf Coast experienced a 3.6 cent increase, so an average of $3.77 per gallon.

OTTAWA, ON -- Canada and the US announced today they will partner on a joint Canada-United States Border Infrastructure Investment Plan.

The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, along with Ray LaHood, Secretary of the United States Department of Transportation, and Janet Napolitano, Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security, released the "first-ever" joint Canada-United States Border Infrastructure Investment Plan (BIIP) and said the plan fulfills a commitment made under the 2011 Canada–United States Beyond the Border Action Plan.

ARLINGTON, Va. -- A new report from the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) suggests that combining medium- and heavy-duty truck crash statistics drags down the true safety record of the US heavy truck fleet.

The study separated and evaluated a decade's worth of crashes for medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks, identifying notable crash trends for each vehicle population.

United States Cold Storage, Inc.
Kraft Foods Investments (New Zealand), which makes Cadbury chocolate, paid its first dividend of $40 million to its parent company after being taken over in 2010, financial statements show.

Kraft acquired Cadbury's New Zealand operations for $207.3 million as part of the global food manufacturer's 11.9 billion pound takeover of the chocolate maker in 2010. In October, Kraft spun off its North American grocery unit and renamed the global snacks business Mondelez International, including the New Zealand unit.
