The Forest Resources Association and STIHL Incorporated honored B.T. Humphreys Logging of Lewisburg, West Virginia, as the Appalachian Region 2015 Outstanding Logger at FRA’s Appalachian Region Awards Dinner in Asheville, North Carolina, on September 23. FRA’s Appalachian Region Chairman Jay Phaup presented Bryan Humphreys with a wooden crosscut-saw plaque, and STIHL’s Scott Heseltine presented Bryan with a $250 check and a gift certificate for a STIHL MS 461 chainsaw.

WVFA staff recently attended the 2015 SFI, Inc. Annual Conference in Lake Tahoe, California. Conference participants include a cross-section of individuals and organizations that rely on and value forests – representing conversation and community groups, universities, private landowners, forest product and paper companies, state and public agencies, and Tribes and Aboriginals.

This was an opportunity to spend time, this year, with fellow celebrants of SFI’s 20th Anniversary. Given this important milestone, we recognized the leadership of those who had the initial vision for the SFI Program, and those who have been part of the continual improvement and transformation of SFI over the last two decades – in our standards, our community, and our contributions.

By request of many members - and for new members - the monthly WVFA publications "The Forestry Monitor" and "Timber Trader" are delivered via email. In fact, these days, most of our members are enjoying their WVFA news, ads and safety alerts via electronic delivery. This saves the Association both time and postage and also assures more expeditious deliveries. WVFA leadership has suggested that staff use this method of newsletter circulation when and where possible. Fax delivery for those without email access is also on the horizon (and, perhaps, even text-delivery soon).

This is new to us, but not a new method to forestry associations. For example, the Forest Resources Association (FRA) has moved to electronic delivery exclusively, it seems.
