This year marks the 60th year for the West Virginia Ted Harriman Forest Industries Camp. The camp is scheduled for July 19-25, 2015, at Camp Mahonegan, Ellamore, West Virginia. This camp provides an opportunity for young people (age limit: as of July 31, 2014, over 16 and less than 20 years of age) to understand the value of multiple-use management of West Virginia's forests and also become aware of career opportunities in forestry.

A partnership between WVFA members and several state agencies provides the instruction and supervision for the camp. Alan Miller, a member of WVFA, will serve as director of the camp, as always. The Forest Industries Camp scholarship cost this year is $100.

We invite you to provide one or more scholarships for the 60th West Virginia Ted Harriman Forest Industries Camp. Your scholarship check can translate into a better understanding for forest resource management and use. Please send your check to our office using the form below.

We are currently accepting nominations for West Virginia "Logger of the Year." All nominations must be submitted by Tuesday, April 6.

Nominees will be evaluated based on established guidelines as indicated on the nominations form (attached). Please note that consideration will be given to the type of operation, equipment involved, the desired results, available markets, economic limitations of the logger, and limitations by the landowner specifications.

The minimum requirements for nomination of "WV Outstanding Logger" are:
All timbering operations will have "Notification Forms" on file with the West Virginia Division of Forestry.

Appropriate safety gear for eye, ear, head, foot, hand and leg protection will be mandatory for all employees as hazards dictate.

Logger must be in good standing with the West Virginia Division of Forestry.

TWO nominators need only submit one written evaluation per nominated logger and nominators may nominate only one logger. Loggers should be nominated by Region (i.e., 1, 2, or 3); the Region where they primarily work - not where they live.

All nominations and written evaluations are due April 6, 2015, to the WVFA office.
