"It is an honor to receive accolades by industry peers for our leadership in product innovation and commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices," says Dave Engelhardt, president of CertainTeed Gypsum. "This is a testament to our employees, who are constantly striving for excellence in building science, quality and communications."

The key driver behind the wave of high profile recognition continues to be AirRenew® and its abuse-resistant product family that includes AirRenew Extreme Impact and AirRenew Extreme Abuse. The groundbreaking, industry-first gypsum boards actively remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs), specifically formaldehyde and other aldehydes, from air circulating indoors. AirRenew Extreme Impact and AirRenew Extreme Abuse handle the same as regular gypsum boards, do not require special tools to install or finish, and are cost-effective alternatives to concrete masonry units, often specified for high-traffic applications.

Honors and recognition include:
• Architectural Products "Product Innovation Award"
• CONTECH QUEBEC "Top 3 Product" Award
• Drywall & Interior Systems Contractors Association of New Jersey (DISCA)
"Most Innovative New Product" Award
• Building Design & Construction "Marketing Leadership Gold Award"
• Architectural Record "Advertising Excellence Award" (2012)
• Green Builder "The Hot 50 Products"
• Walls & Ceilings "AdScore Readership Study" Award

Offering a broad range of gypsum and finishing products for interior and exterior needs, CertainTeed Gypsum has served the North American building industry for more than 80 years and is a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, the world’s leading producer of gypsum products. This, in combination with the full range of affiliated CertainTeed Corporation building products, provides architects, contractors, builders and dealers one partner to provide service and support for commercial and residential building projects.

Each Project PRO module combines project videos from NRHA’s consumer website for dealers, PlanItDIY.com. Those videos feature valuable selling skills to teach associates how to complete the project, as well as how to sell it. Modules cover common DIY projects, such as Priming and Painting Interior Walls, Fixing a Leaky Toilet and Installing Electrical Outlets and Switches. They also explain how to deliver better customer service and increase transaction sizes.

MAKE TRAINING MANDATORY
One sure fire way to get your staff to take training is to make it mandatory. Many dealers are using online product knowledge training as part of a new employee’s probation period. One of the things required for keeping their job after that initial period is to complete one of the courses.
Veteran employees can benefit from a refresher course as well. However, we realize that they may need to be encouraged to accept the mandatory training rule. Give them a friendly challenge: ask them to take the online test from one of the chapters in the Basic Training Courses. They will likely be surprised by just how much they’ve forgotten. Making some training through the year a prerequisite before each employee’s annual review is another effective way to draw more staff into taking training.

Remember, all training and testing is done online and NRHA keeps track of each student’s progress for you.

BACK TO BASICS
The best place to start with NRHA training is NRHA’s Basic Training Courses in Hardware and Basic Training in Building Materials. These courses include:

• 11 Core Hardlines and 9 Building Materials Chapters
• Product Photos & Descriptions
• Frequently Asked Questions
• Upselling & Add-On Selling Techniques
• Selling Skills
• Merchandising Techniques

WAYNE, NJ (5/2013) – GAF offers two versions: HD with over 80 psi, and HD PLUS with over 110 psi compressive strength and a durable coated glass facer. Each of these boards is an ideal choice for protecting your roof from the elements and rooftop traffic. GAF EnergyGuard™ HD is a ½" thick high-density ISO cover board with an R-value of 2.5, the highest of any cover board—and, at 11lbs.(HD) 13lbs.(HD PLUS) per 4’ X 8’ board, it’s a fraction of the weight of gypsum cover boards.

Aside from its high R-value, which contributes additional energy savings to the roofing system and the building, GAF has the ability to ship three times more product on one truck than gypsum cover boards. Using fewer trucks means less carbon emissions, with the added benefit of taking less time to unload at the jobsite.

"Our new GAF High Density Cover Board is a key component for a more resilient roofing system from single ply to asphaltic," stated Justin Hardy, GAF product manager at GAF. "The ability to protect a roof from traffic and impact while adding R-value performance is a game changer."
