New RONA Store Opens in Sherwood Park, AB

The largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, renovation and gardening products officially unveiled its new RONA Sherwood Park store today. The opening of the 52,000-square-foot store, located at 301 Wye Road, represents a $16 million investment in Sherwood Park and provides 72 local jobs, 40 of which are new positions.

"The people in Sherwood Park have been wonderful supporters of RONA," said Robert Dutton, RONA President and CEO. "They keep coming back because of the excellent service the store team provides and the expertise they know they can count on. This new store is one of the new generation of RONA stores, and it includes a tremendous range of products, brighter atmosphere, friendlier and more efficient design as well as our everyday competitive prices.

The new RONA replaces an older store that was located on 222 Baseline Road in Sherwood Park. It is also twice the size of the former store, providing room for more products and services for our customers. The store builds on RONA's efforts as a responsible steward of the environment and it will be the first store in the RONA banner to apply to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification in Alberta. The new TOTEM store in Strathmore, AB, and the RONA in Saint-Georges, QC, have also applied for LEED certification. Furthermore, the Calgary homes featured on My RONA Home television show obtained LEED Canada for Homes Certification - awarded largely because they were able to incorporate numerous eco-responsible products.

"Strathcona County is a dynamic region, home to people living both in urban and rural lifestyles. These conditions are ideal for RONA's products and service offering," commented Mr.Dutton. "We are proud to replace an older store with our new format store that has applied for LEED certification. It proves our commitment to protecting the environment and our desire to do things right."
