For the 9th consecutive year, VDOT and VAA will join forces to host the Asphalt Seminars in three locations around the state. Kicking off in Roanoke, a variety of topics will be discussed. Innovation in Safety will be front and center this year - both at the plant and in the work zone. Along with safety, discussions on the lessons learned from the 2017 paving season and the new specifications for 2018 are on the agenda. This year will feature new innovations and technologies to be deployed. E-tickets for asphalt delivery were piloted on a paving schedule late in 2017; experiences from the contractor and department will be presented. More contractors are looking to use this technology to minimize paper work and increase safety. Also, the pilot projects to allow more RAP in mixes on low-risk projects will be outlined. Work over the winter at the Virginia Transportation Research Council has been on-going to performance base line numerous surface mixes with less than 30% RAP. This summer, certain projects will be eligible for contractors to develop and produce surface mixes with more than 30% RAP. To do so, they must meet one or more performance targets. Once the research is completed, these values will be known and mix designers can start trying combinations of binders and additives to meet or exceed these values. As always, these seminars will be packed with useful information for the attendee.

If you have not registered, contact the VAA office to find a location with space because locations are filling up.
