TAHFM Energy Round Up: IMPROVED for 2015!

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

2014 was the second successful year of TAHFM’s Energy Round Up and the team is currently working with ENERGY STAR to tabulate results based upon December 2014 Year End utility data for each building. The TAHFM Round Up committee successfully increased participation by 20% and we now have over 110 buildings competing to save energy and to see who is the best of the best. The award ceremony to recognize 2014 winners will be held at TAHFM’s Interlink annual educational conference, March 30, 2015 – at the Westin Memorial City in Houston.
Awards will be presented for:
  • Greatest Improvement (Btu/SqFt) – 2014 versus 2013 (Hospital)
  • Greatest Improvement (Btu/SqFt) – 2014 versus 2013 (Medical Office Building)
  • Greatest Improvement (Btu/SqFt) – 2014 versus 2013 (Retail Healthcare Building)
  • Greatest Reduction in Water Consumption – 2014 versus 2013
Remember:
Midland Memorial and Texas Health Resources – Allen were the big winners for 2013.  Will they ‘repeat’ in 2014?

2015 Competition:
To kick off the 2015 Energy Round Up, we are fortunate to have two of the leading energy management voices in our industry attending Interlink and they will give us 30 minutes of their wisdom on this topic and help focus our efforts for 2015. Join us for the TAHFM Energy Round Up Awards Ceremony, Monday March 20, 2015. We will also have utility Benchmarking experts at the TAHFM booth during Houston Interlink who can help you benchmark your building during the event. When you Benchmark with TAHFM and ENERGY STAR, you will automatically be benchmarked with ASHE’s Energy To Care program – and thus you will be eligible for national recognition at the ASHE Annual Meeting.

We Heard Your Feedback!
We have SIMPLIFIED the method to share data for your building portfolio as of this date! The major frustration that many of you expressed to the Energy Round Up committee was the onerous process that was required to sign up your buildings, and then to share your data for the Mid-Point and Year-End comparisons. Yes, it was a real pain and often the link did not function correctly. ENERGY STAR assisted TAHFM by simplifying this process and now, once you have followed the steps to enter your building into the TAHFM competition and agree to share your data, you will automatically be part of the TAHFM building group which will eliminate the need to re-share these same buildings for the Mid-Point and Year-End rankings.

Big ‘thank you’ to Clark Reed of ENERGY STAR and Larry Newlands of Memorial Hermann who were able to greatly simplify this process. Remember, Step 1 of competing and saving money is to benchmark your building’s utility consumption using the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager tool. This is a FREE benchmarking program.

Ohio Challenge:
TAHFM and the Ohio Hospital Association are going head to head in 2015 to see who can save the most energy during calendar year 2015. Using ENERGY STAR’s Portfolio Manager and ASHE’s Energy To Care format, Texas plans to demonstrate to the Buckeyes that the January football game was a one-time random event. Enter your healthcare building in the TAHFM Energy Round Up for 2015 and help us show Ohio who is the best of the best.

Committee Volunteers Needed!
Do you have a passion for improving energy efficiency performance at your campus?  We need a few good volunteers to help provide benchmarking expertise and help us grow the TAHFM competition to include 200 building in 2015.
