In their March 2016 Newsletter the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners (TBCE) reported on the disciplinary actions rendered. There were seven administrative actions, five letters of reprimand, ten cease and desist orders, ten monetary fines totaling $12,500, and one statutory revocation of a license.

The law requires when a licensed DC changes his or her address that the Texas Board of Chiropractic Examiners (TBCE) be notified. The TBCE announces that they have simplified this into a three-step process with an on-line form.

State medical boards are not protecting the public from doctors who’ve committed sexual misconduct. Seventy percent of physicians who had engaged in sexual misconduct that led to sanctions by hospitals, healthcare organizations or a malpractice payment, were not disciplined by state medical boards for their behavior.

The Texas Dragon Boat Association hosts dragon boating festivals during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The HHS Office of Civil Rights recently updated guidance on fees for record copying. "The fee may not include costs associated with verification; documentation; searching for and retrieving the PHI; maintaining systems; recouping capital for data access, storage or infrastructure; or other costs ...even if such costs are authorized by State law."

The final rule on how physician practices must handle overpayments from Medicare has some good news. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), requires only a 6-year loopback. The rule also clarifies what CMS means when it gives providers 60 days to report an overpayment and refund the money to Medicare.

Lindsay Rowe, DC, MD, DACBR, was a giant in the field of chiropractic radiology who enjoyed careers as a chiropractor, medical doctor, radiologist and educator. Dr. Rowe’s accomplishments in skeletal radiology have contributed much to the advancement of chiropractic’s acceptance in the medical community, especially chiropractic radiology. He was a leader and a trailblazer, bridging the gap between allopathic and chiropractic; creating respect for our profession within the modern health care community.
