Attend TCAs CE Seminars, Chiro Texpo ’16 ... And Save!!!

TCA recently held two events – the 2016 Mid-Winter Conference in Lubbock and a one-day seminar, Concussion from the Pros to the Joes, in Austin. The feedback from both events was overwhelmingly positive. At Mid-Winter, attendees were treated to phenomenal sessions from chiropractic radiology guru Terry Yochum, DC, DACBR, Fellow-ACCR, and renowned chiropractic coach Charles Ward, DC – both legends in our profession – and both doctors and chiropractic assistants were wowed by Lori W. Allen of Profitable Practice Strategies, who showed them how to transform their front desk for maximum efficiency and profitability.

Just when you think it couldn’t get any better, sports chiropractor Kelly Ryder, DC, CCSP, delivered a comprehensive, hands-on concussion workshop last weekend that simply blew the audience away. Read about upcoming events and information in this article.

The share of government health spending rose to 64.3% in 2013, a study finds. Taxpayers funded nearly two-thirds of all U.S. health expenditures in 2013, and that figure is expected to rise even higher by 2024.

About one-third of "public" speakers at US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory committee meetings on yet-to-be-approved cancer drugs had financial ties to the pharmaceutical industry. In other words, public testimony is regularly supported by private interests. "The industry has hijacked that microphone; they're using it as their second presentation at advisory committee meetings," senior study author said.

The idea of a single-payer healthcare system has come back with the release of a single-payer healthcare proposal by Sen. Bernie Sanders. Opponents of a single-payer system say it would lead to a big increase in taxes. But a new study estimates that the federal, state, and local governments paid for 64.3% of U.S. health spending, or $1.877 trillion, in 2013 and that it would not take much higher taxes to finance a single-payer system. Learn more about the effects of a single-payer system in this report.

More than 700 chiropractic physicians, students and corporate partners joined the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) in Washington, D.C. to visit with lawmakers on Capitol Hill as part of the 2016 National Chiropractic Leadership Conference (NCLC).

The objective of this study was to identify the prevalence of back pain and treatment satisfaction in a population of low-socioeconomic pregnant women. Musculoskeletal pain in pregnancy is prevalent in this underserved patient population and negatively affects sleep. Routine treatment with medication appears inadequate.

A narrative review of all published reports of adverse effects of chiropractic pediatric spinal manipulation was performed to assess the risk of adverse effects of chiropractic spinal manipulation in the pediatric population. Based on the published literature, chiropractic spinal manipulation, when performed by skilled chiropractors, provides very low risk of adverse effect to the pediatric patient.

You know that provision in the Affordable Care Act that the American Chiropractic Association worked so hard to achieve so that insurance companies would have to pay the same wages for the same service? The AMA will seek "repeal of the non-physician provider non-discrimination provisions of the ACA. AMA will immediately direct sufficient funds toward a multi-pronged campaign to accomplish these goals." In the eyes of organized medicine, you should be paid less money for the same work.

While it is good that the AMA agrees with TCA that "scope of practice is determined by training, experience, and demonstrated competence," it is "not good" that "AMA will continue to work to draft model legislation that deals with non-physician independent practitioners’ scope of practice."

When someone publicly states that they will always be superior to you, you will always be inferior to them, and that they want to work to make sure that you stay that way, justice is not served.
