Larry Welch is our Ambassador of Education because he travels all over Texas giving Paving and Compaction and Fundamentals of Asphalt Seminars. But did you know that Larry also attends all the big industry-related trade shows making sure that TXAPA is always where we need to be to get noticed by your potential clients and partners?

Building relationships is a key part of what TXAPA does for it's members. Pictured above is a typical set-up for Larry, this one at the TxDOT Construction Conference. Passers by can take a digital edition our Texas Asphalt Pavement User Guide or grab a newly redesigned Asphalt Mix Types in Texas brochure. We will be redesigning all of our printed materials as we use up the quantities we have on hand. Get the new Asphalt Mix Types in Texas at the link below.

Larry has also been traveling to do our Texas Asphalt User Guide Webinar Series. You may have heard him most recently on location at Texas Bit with David Morton. Last month, he visited the Houston Public Works Department where he led the webinar in front a live studio audience. Larry is somewhat of a celebrity in Houston. The HPWD tells us that employees gather in a conference room to listen to the webinars and they were tickled to see him in person. In the spirit of working together to successfully deliver projects, TxDOT, TXAPA, and AGC of Texas convened the Seal Coat Advisory Task Force to develop best practices for seal coat projects. TXAPA member Kevin King of Missouri Petroleum Products, Co., LLC is chairman of both the Task Force and TXAPA's Seal Coat Steering Committee.

In a recent memo, TxDOT's Construction Division Director Gina Gallegos, P.E. and Maintenance Division Director Dan Stacks, P.E. recommend that all contractors working on seal coat projects read Chapter Six of the Seal Coat and Surface Treatment Manual which covers pre-sealcoat activities. In addition, TXAPA President Albert Schlather has recommended Chapter Three, which covers materials selection, planning, and preparation.

You can find the Seal Coat and Surface Treatment Manual as well as a pre-construction agenda and the Seal Coat Inspection and Training Manual at the link below.
