IN THE WORKS
Dear Members,

I want to take a minute to encourage all of our members to take advantage of TXAPA’s Brown Bag Lunch program.  This program is a highly effective way of marketing our product to your customers, private engineers, municipalities, etc.  We held three lunches last year, with the lunch hosted by APAC in Beaumont being the most successful.  This was due to the quality of the attendee list.  APAC did an excellent job of making sure that area decision makers were there to hear the message.  If you would like to schedule one of these events contact David Kopp at TXAPA in Buda to make arrangements.  There are several topics that can be presented based on your needs.  Again, please take the time to utilize this valuable tool that TXAPA offers.  You will definitely see positive results.

Sincerely,

Geno Carrier IV
Marketing/Membership Services Chairman

From the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) this month is this article entitled "New FHWA Survey Finds Asphalt Recycling Reaches 99 Percent; Warm Mix Usage Skyrockets." The article with the various links is based off of a survey completed by NAPA for the Federal Highway Administration entitled Asphalt Pavement Mix Production Survey: 2009-2010. When reading please note the warm mix definition used for this survey is for asphalt mix produced and placed between 10 – 100 degrees less than it would normally have been produced and placed. In Texas TxDOT’s definition for warm mix is mix produced and placed between 215 – 275 degrees.

At the 2012 Strategic Planning Sessions the topic of safety in the workplace became a big discussion item one day. Everyone in attendance had a safety story to tell, and everyone was very passionate about the topic of safety. As the conversation continued everyone felt that TXAPA should help include safety as a topic in its work for the TXAPA Membership. One thought was to include a safety article in the eTXAPA newsletter every month. Everyone liked the idea and they all committed to having their company safety officers contribute articles to the eTXAPA newsletter. For our first such article Doug Wilcox, EHS Director Ramming Paving and RTI Hot Mix/Materials, agreed to author an article. Below please find Mr. Wilcox’s article on Seatbelts. I want to thank Ramming Paving and RTI Hot Mix/Materials for allowing Mr. Wilcox time out of his busy schedule to write the article below, and I want to thank Mr. Wilcox for jumping right in and producing a great article to help kick off this new addition to the eTXAPA newsletter.
