Ballast is necessary in ships for stability, balance, trim and to otherwise keep them upright because the alternative is not pleasant. The amount of ballast necessary varies based on the type of ship and the amount of cargo, if any... The shipping containers need to be insulated. And they need to be insulated well. They are constructed out of corrugated steel which is "conductive." The whole box is a giant "thermal bridge." Uninsulated they are ovens in the summer and ice-boxes in the winter...So how to insulate them? There are only two choices -- on the inside or on the outside.

Marketing & Industry Promotion
Convincing consumers to invest in energy efficiency is a difficult task, but help may be on the way. A new bipartisan bill would make it possible for those buying an energy efficient home to negotiate a better mortgage. The Sensible Accounting to Value Energy Act (SAVE) would require mortgage lenders to take the projected energy savings of an efficient home into account when presented with a qualified energy report.

It's been proven that many of the challenges in the home performance business have nothing to do with the technical expertise of home performance contractors. The challenges often lie in the contractors' inability to generate enough leads and close enough work so that his technical expertise can be put to work to save energy and reduce consumers' energy footprint.

Energy efficiency is often overlooked when talking about America’s clean energy future, but it’s one of the best ways to reduce energy waste and lower our carbon footprint. With buildings accounting for 40% of America’s energy use, constructing more efficient work spaces is helping to reduce the country’s carbon emissions. Businesses are increasingly incorporating energy efficient technologies to reduce their operating costs and create a better work environment for their employees. Of course, this new construction is also supporting well-paid, highly-skilled jobs that cannot be sent overseas.
