When Brad and Shirley Houlden whip around in their two Corvettes on professional-grade driving courses, they seem a lifetime removed from the lean years of the late 1970s and early 1980s, when they could barely make a living as farmers. Theirs is a sprayfoam success story that has mirrored the industry’s exponential growth in recent years, and just like their sports cars, they show no signs of slowing down. The Houldens started Cambridge, Neb.-based Houlden Contracting Inc. in 1983, and now run a four-person business in 30 counties across northwestern Kansas, western Nebraska and northeastern Colorado.
