Leaders from Congress, the White House, industry, non-profits, and state and local governments across the country are coming together to share and discuss how they are working to make the U.S. the world’s most energy-efficient economy one city and state at a time. Hosted by the Alliance to Save Energy, the 11th Great Energy Efficiency Day (GEED) will feature keynotes from Sens. Rob Portman (R-Ohio.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Reps. Michael Burgess (R-Texas.) and David McKinley (R-W.V.), as well as two panels on the most pressing obstacles and breakthroughs in advancing energy efficiency at the state and local levels.

ICC Disaster Response Network Supports Communities Damaged by Natural Disasters
Anticipating the needs of jurisdictions for assistance in the aftermath of the recent tornadoes that impacted 12 states, the Disaster Response Network is active. Jurisdictions can access a database of volunteers to assist with building damage assessment, inspections and other code-related functions. More information is available on the ICC website. BPI's Building Analyst Testing Knowledge List Now Available

On October 31, BPI announced that the Building Analyst (BA) certification will be upgraded on February 1, 2014. The final BA Testing Knowledge List that will become active on February 1 is now available. Building science best-practices are always evolving. There's a regular flow of new tools and techniques to learn and master. The Building Analyst (BA) certification exams are being updated to ensure that Building Analysts have command of the latest best practices in whole house energy audits. In addition to verifying increased proficiency, you get a higher level of confidence from your customers, your employer, the programs you participate in and the market at large.

Dr. Günter Oertel Dies at 81

Researcher Dr. Günter Oertel died at the age of 81 in Leverkusen, Germany, Nov. 7. "Günter Oertel is considered one of the pioneers of polyurethane chemistry. His research resulted in more than 90 international patents and countless publications," said Dr. Joachim Wolff, Head of the Polyurethanes Business Unit and member of the Executive Committee of Bayer MaterialScience.
