Certification Exam Preparatory Course Descriptions, Schedules
To become certified under SPFA’s program, you must pass the written exam for the certification you would like to achieve and all lower level written exams, starting with the entry level, SPF Assistant Written Examination. The order in which you pass the exams or meet the requirements doesn’t matter, but you will not be certified until all the criteria are met. Attending classes is not mandatory, however it is recommended since these courses will prepare you for the exams.

The COURSE schedule for Monday, Jan. 26, is:

SPF Insulation Master Installer Prep Course, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Topics in this preparatory course include:
Troubleshooting and Repair, Preparing for a Third Party Inspection, Thermal and Ignition Barriers, Sealant Foams - One and Two Component, Hybrid Insulation Systems, SPF Equipment, and Coating Equipment. 

SPF Roofing Master Installer Prep Course8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Topics in this preparatory course include:
Pre-Job Planning, Troubleshooting and Repair, Preparing for Third Party Inspection, Maintenance Repair and Renewal, SPF Equipment, and Coating Equipment. 

SPF Field Examiner Prep Course8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Learn how to observe, record and assess the work of the installer seeking SPFA Certification for Master Installer in both insulation and roofing. The processes and procedures for conducting the field examination will be taught.

ABAA SPF Installer Training8 a.m.-4 p.m.
There will also be a co-located event taking place Jan. 26-27, designed with the SPF installer in mind. The event, ABAA Spray Polyurethane Foam Installer Training, will be held 8 a.m.-4 p.m. This 2-day course is designed for the experienced SPF installer to learn how to install spray polyurethane foam as a complete air barrier system in commercial buildings. Participants will learn about material selection, application technology, substrate conditions and the continuity/compatibility of components. At the end of the course, the Air Barrier Association of America (ABAA) certification exam will be offered. ABAA certification requires that installers have a minimum of 3,000 hours of work experience either directly with air barriers or in applicable related trade experience, with 1,500 of those hours directly related to SPF. This course is not required for SPFA PCP certification. 

 

The WRITTEN EXAM schedule for Monday, Jan. 26, is:

8 a.m.-6 p.m. (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday)
8 a.m.-Noon (Thursday) 

Written exams may be taken during any of the above times. However, the exam rooms will close at the times listed and all examinees will be required to leave at that time. The last exam will begin no later than 2 hours before the room closes or 4 hours for Combined Supplier Rep Exam.

 

The FIELD EXAM schedule for Monday, Jan. 26, is: 

8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (Monday, Tuesday)

Field exams are over-the-shoulder evaluations so candidates for SPFA PCP Certified Master Installer can demonstrate their ability to manufacture SPF in place. For detailed information, refer to the roofing or insulation handbook at www.sprayfoam.org. Field exams be available for:
