The SC Asphalt Pavement Association 2016 SCAPA Winter Conference was held February 22-23, 2016 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Columbia, SC. More than 450 people attended the conference made up of asphalt producers, suppliers, engineering consultants and staff from several public agencies to include SCDOT and the FHWA-SC Division.
 
SCAPA will exhibit at next week's conference in Columbia (March 22nd & 23rd).
 
 
   
Next month, SCAPA and Transportation Technology Transfer Service (T3S) will host a PaveXpress workshop in Columbia, SC.
 
 
   
Southern Asphalt, Inc. was approved for Contractor Membership by the SCAPA Board of Directors. Southern Asphalt is a heavy highway contractor with operations in Conway and Mullins, SC.
 
 
   
On July 21-24, 2016, SCAPA will celebrates its 50th Anniversary at its annual summer conference. This year’s conference will be held at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
 
On Dec. 4, 2015, President Obama signed into law the first long-term highway bill with robust funding since 1998, the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act of 2015, to authorize funds for Federal-aid highways and highway safety programs. The five-year, $305 billion legislation—$281 billion allocated to highway and road projects —provides the needed certainty to plan for long-term projects that rebuild America's highways, roads, and bridges.
 
The South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association recently honored winners of the 2015 SCAPA Quality Pavement Awards Program during the 2016 SCAPA Winter Conference at the Embassy Suites in Columbia, SC. 17 projects were submitted this year; a mix of interstate, highway, secondary roads and private work across SC were sent in for consideration. This year, in addition to the Quality Pavement Awards, new categories were added to allow applicants to highlight the adaptability and sustainability of asphalt pavements, as well as the methods to expedite project delivery.

The SC Senate gave third reading to the road funding bill last week. The measure, which carried 30-15 without Democratic support, is an amended version of a bill (H.3579) approved last year by the S.C. House of Representatives.
