Today we’re starting off with professional development tracks followed by the Food for Thought Luncheon where keynote Alison Levine, Team Captain of the first American Women’s Everest Expedition, will speak on The Art of High-Impact Leadership and FCC Chairman, Tom Wheeler, will discuss policy issues and the central role of public safety communications in the 21st century.

Tonight is the President’s Dinner featuring entertainment by The Capitol Steps. Recognitions will be given during the Dinner, including Life Member Awards, Presidential Awards and the swearing in of the APCO International Executive Committee & Board of Directors. The President’s Dinner Reception starts at 5:30 p.m. and the Dinner is from 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Convention Center. Tickets are $45 per person and can be purchased at the registration desk until 11:00 a.m. today or until the Dinner sells out. Ticket needed for admission.

During the second general session of the APCO International Conference & Expo, Cheryl Greathouse was elected First Vice President. Greathouse, who ran unopposed, received 963 yes votes and 32 no votes. In APCO’s other election, Martha Carter defeated JJ McFarland to win Second Vice President. Carter received 742 votes, McFarland 294.
 
APCO members approved four amendments related to the association’s governance documents during the second general session at the APCO International Conference & Expo Tuesday afternoon, but one controversial amendment overwhelmingly failed.
 
It was a morning of grand celebration for an accomplished group of APCO members who were recognized during the Distinguished Achievers Breakfast. APCO International Executive Director Derek Poarch opened the breakfast events, sponsored by TeleCommunication Systems, by telling the packed audience that excellence should be rewarded.
 
Former Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Peter Pace tells APCO members that to have a successful workplace leadership must come from every member of the team.
 
In this Presentation Theater session, Mark Reddish, APCO’s senior counsel and manager of government relations, shared a few of the challenges and concerns regarding apps in the public safety industry.
