WestRock to Reconfigure North Charleston Packaging Paper Mill

As part of the reconfiguration, WestRock will permanently shut down one of the mill’s three paper machines and related physical infrastructure, eliminating approximately 288,000 tons of linerboard capacity. The reconfigured mill’s production capacity will total approximately 605,000 tons per year, consisting of three grades: kraft linerboard; KraftPak, an unbleached folding carton kraft paper; and DuraSorb, a saturating kraft paper used for decorative laminate and industrial end uses.

Japan Increases Lumber Imports from Russia
Lumber imports to Japan from Russia expanded 12.9% y-o-y in second quarter of 2019 to 250.0 thousand m3 with import value jumped 13.5% to $90.7 million, according to Customs and Tariff Bureau of Japan. Canada’s lumber exports to Japan declined 25.2% to 381.4 thousand m3, export value fell 32.4% to $146.6 million.

California Lawmakers Reject Bill to Ban Paper Receipts
After an outcry about privacy concerns related to digital receipts and what it would cost small businesses to use new payment software, that provision was dropped. The move to ban paper receipts also faced strong opposition from the California Restaurant Association and the California Retailers Association.
