Klabin Donates 26,000 Boxes to 2016 Winter Coat Campaign
Klabin has been supporting the campaign for over ten years and is the fund's biggest partner in this initiative. P&W paper shipments decreased 6% in April compared with April 2015, according to the AF&PA. Total P&W paper inventory decreased less than 1% from March levels.
 
N.A. P&W Paper Demand Declines 4.9% y/y in April
Demand for printing and writing papers was down 4.9% y/y in April, according to the PPPC. N.A. P&W paper demand was 3.5% lower through the first four months of 2016.

With the implementation of anti-dumping rulings and gradual recovery of downstream viscose staple fiber industry, it's expected the dissolving pulp sector will bottom out during 2016-2020 with output and apparent consumption of dissolving pulp amounting to 3.2 million tons and 3.184 million tons respectively in 2020.
 
South Korea BHK Pulp Imports Down through April, BSK Imports Rise
Country's bleached hardwood kraft pulp imports were down 1.2% y/y for the first four months of 2016. The decline included 24% less from Indonesia. Bleached softwood kraft pulp imports increased 5.4%.
 
U.S. Boxboard Production Declines
Boxboard output in April 2016 decreased 3.6% compared with April 2015 and decreased 6.0% from last month (March 2016).

The demolition of A64 paper machine required removal of 1,800 tons of steel and 100 tons of copper. Holes were dug 40-50 feet deep to house new equipment. Up to 500 employees, who began training April 5, work at one time to meet the projected July 3 conversion completion date. A brief past history of the mill is included.
 
FITNER Secures Landmark Project with APP Mill in Southern Indonesia
FITNIR Online will measure key pulp liquor properties from the mill’s recaust and recovery streams. These data will feed into a supervisory control system for process optimization. Expected to be the world’s largest pulp mill once operational, a total of two analyzers and six field sample stations will be implemented to provide fundamental liquor properties at strategic process locations for optimal control.
 
Maine Paper and Tissue Mills Receive Rail Improvement Grants
The U.S. state awarded about $843,000 to six projects, most of which were related to improving the efficiency of access for pulp, paper, and tissue production at two prominent mill sites that hope to become more competitive as a result. Baileyville and Skowhegan's P&P operations are set to benefit from the improvements.

With this addition, the Finnish bioproduct mill can utilize the chemicals in the odorous gases of the pulp manufacturing process.This will help to reduce the wastewater load considerably. Startup is planned for Q3 of 2017. The investment is valued at roughly EUR 20 million.

Norbord's High Level, Alberta, Mill Resumes Production
On May 4, a fire broke out in the mill yard which, as a result of the hot, dry, windy, weather conditions in northern Alberta, quickly spread to the log storage area outside of the plant. As a precaution, Norbord immediately suspended production at the mill. Shipping from finished goods inventory resumed the weekend of May 6.

Södra Produces 500,000 Metric Tons of Dissolving Pulp

He will assume overall leadership responsibility for the Texas facility.
