Zen Clean Energy Solutions Leads Hydrogen Study for BC’s Pulp & Paper Sector

Zen Clean Energy Solutions (Zen) is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the BC Bioenergy Network, in partnership with FortisBC, The BC Pulp and Paper BioAlliance and The Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions to complete a PRE-FEASIBILITY STUDY: HYDROGEN GENERATION IN BC’S PULP & PAPER SECTOR.

The proposed study and model will assess economic opportunities to increase the competitiveness and diversification of BC’s pulp and paper sector by incorporating hydrogen production into operations, as well as assess technical challenges and the life cycle analysis related to the adoption of hydrogen in the sector. The outcome of the study and model will demonstrate the potential economic value of hydrogen and oxygen produced via electrolysis and will describe the market potential for a range of end use cases.

The workplan is broken into three major tasks:

1.    Information review and data gathering

2.    Model building and sensitivity analysis

3.    Equipment consideration and hydrogen and oxygen use opportunities.

Stakeholder engagement and rapid iteration will be critical through all phases of the project. This includes working closely with the BCBN and the mill operator, as well as with industry and equipment vendors. Zen is highly experienced in meeting project scope, budget, and schedule, and has developed a robust process that will ensure that there is sufficient time and budget appropriately allocated to the priority areas outlined in the RFP.
