Eagle Systems to Apply First Cold Foil Finish on Uncoated Paper

Eagle Systems, Ocean, N.J., a U.S.-based developer and manufacturer of foil enhancement equipment, has announced it will display the industry’s first system capable of applying cold foil finishing to uncoated paper. In the works for more than six years as an R&D project, the company's demonstration at drupa 2016 starting May 31 will mark the first time a viable, sellable solution, with 100% coverage capabilities will be available to the marketplace.

"This is a real game changer for the commercial/packaging printing world because until now, it simply never worked," stated Eagle President and CEO Mike King (pictured above). "Cold foil on uncoated stock has been tried and tested by many folks with little success. I have to admit, Eagle invested a lot of resources leading up to this breakthrough, but we’re dedicated exclusively to the application of hot and cold foil. For many service providers of greeting cards, food packaging, pocket folders, and wine labels, as well as beer and soda carriers, this innovation alone will be well worth the trip to Dusseldorf. We expect a tremendous response."

Uncoated sheetfed cold foiling has never been done before. Due to characteristics of uncoated stocks (being porous and variables in the surface from coated stocks), previous iterations were never capable of 100% coverage. Now, with an Eagle Cold Foil system and Eagle consumables (available directly from Eagle), functional, complete sheetfed cold foiling on uncoated stock paper will now be a reality.

Currently, there is only one press set up to do this in the world. Eagle has retrofit a Manroland press at the The Matlet Group’s Packaging Graphics in Providence, R.I. Packaging Graphics is a leading manufacturer of high-end consumer packaging products. King adds, "Because of our testing and our consumables, we are making sheetfed cold foiling on uncoated stock happen every day. We’re very confident the drupa audience will be impressed."

For more than 30 years, Eagle Systems has been the industry leader in the design and manufacture of foil application and print enhancement equipment. With hundreds of installations around the world, the Eagle Systems brand has become synonymous with quality, reliability and state of the art innovation. Since founding the company, Mike King, CEO/president and inventor of all Eagle Systems products, has specialized in the use of foil in printing. Once again Mike King has demonstrated his dominance in this arena since the company first rolled out a line of foil systems — the Eco-Eagle Cold Foil and the Eco-Eagle Cast and Cure systems.

These systems are in a class of their own. Completely manufactured, assembled, and tested at Eagle System’s plant in Ocean N.J., the Eco-Eagle systems are installed and in production within five days. Using advanced technology and the power of the internet, the highly automated Eco-Eagle Systems reduce foil costs and run smoothly and foil dust free without operator intervention.
