Melbourne, Australia, based artist Daniel Agdag, featured by Tree Hugger (Ashburn, Va., USA) online magazine this past week creates fantastical and complex machines and airships under the name Public Office, all out of paperboard. These are some of the most detailed and intricate sculptures that can be made by hand, and with paperboard no less.

 

 

 

The unique strength and pliability of paper products being discovered by more artists demonstrates that paper can have extended usefulness beyond just a good printing/ink absorbent surface (which remains a plus). As an inspiration to the commercial market and possibilities for new paper product designs, this type of artistic use for paperboard has been a spotlight on Facebook pages devoted to original art and sharing people's works this month, similar to the moving paper cups this past month (featured in OTW February 4 edition).

 

Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction and sometimes fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.
