Chantler Packaging Introduces Corrugated Containers with Ethylene Absorbing Film

According to a report this past week by The Packer, Lenexa, Kan., USA, Chantler Packaging (Mississauga, Ont., Canada) now offers retail-ready containers with ethylene absorbing film to extend shelf life. The company has launched PrimePro Core, an absorbing film technology applied to containers that are suited for retail displays. It extends shelf life by removing ethylene gas, a powerful plant hormone that triggers the process of ripening and decay

"(PrimePro Core’s) incorporation into rigid produce retail corrugate and paperboard easily extends shelf life," said Grant Ferguson, VP of sales and marketing for Chantler Packaging. "But more importantly, it reduces food that goes to waste."

The PrimePro Core film technology was piloted overseas, in partnership with Flexomed, a packaging, printing, and graphics company based in Valencia, Spain. The firm took the PrimePro shelf life extension technology and laminated it to corrugated trays and compact boxes, leading to an application of ethylene absorbing material without the need for additional materials or labor, such as tying, sealing or gassing.

PrimePro ethylene absorbing packages are available in a variety of formats, including pallet covers, sheets, bags and rollstock, according to the release. The new containers can be used to display fruits or vegetables.

"We’re excited to expand PrimePro Core to high value commodities such as pears, cherries, stone fruit and organics," said Ferguson.
