In the Spotlight: Marshelle Slayton - Engineering Blood

Surrounded by engineers growing up, TAPPI Young Professional and outdoor enthusiast Marshelle Slayton said she knew from the start that’s what she wanted for her career. Studying paper science was a given, too, after visiting the University of Washington.

"Their program met all my needs," Marshelle explained.

Recently promoted to Process Improvement Leader, Marshelle is now responsible for supporting productivity and process improvement initiatives on a regional level for Sonoco Products Company’s paper division. She is enthusiastic about the industry and the many intriguing opportunities it has to offer. "This is a fun field to be in. People are so creative and are always looking for new ways to do things," she noted.

Marshelle is also enthusiastic about her membership in TAPPI. She credits it with her ability to network with other professionals who willingly share their knowledge and expertise. Marshelle originally joined TAPPI in college and says it was integral to her success. "While I was a student, it helped me develop a professional resume to use both for internships and my initial job applications after college," she said. "It was also great for practicing interview techniques and building a solid professional network."
