New GM for Port Townsend Paper Mill

Carr Tyndall has been named general manager of Port Townsend Paper Corp., Port Townsend, Wash., USA. As of March 30, Tyndall assumed responsibility for all mill operations, previously held by former Port Townsend Paper Corp. (PTPC) President Roger Hagan, mill officials confirmed. Henry Smedley had been acting as general manager of the mill in the interim.

Prior to accepting his new role at PTPC, Tyndall was plant manager for KapStone Paper and Packaging at its Summerville, South Carolina mill. Tyndall has an extensive background including more than 30 years of experience with industry leaders such as Smurfit-Stone Container Corp, International Paper, and RockTenn Co.

Tyndall holds a bachelor’s degree in paper science from North Carolina State University and an MBA from the University of Florida.

"We are very excited to have Carr joining us and leading the Port Townsend Paper Team to success," said Felix Vicino, human resources manager of PTPC. "We’re confident that he will be a great asset in furthering our safety and production goals and making PTPC a world-class organization, as well as strengthening our relationship with the community."

Hagan had talked about staying on after the mill was purchased in February by Crown Paper Group Inc., a holding company owned by Lindsay Goldberg LLC. A week after the company announced the purchase, Hagan, however, retired.

CEO Steve Klinger announced last month that the company will be investing more than $40 million in the next two years to make upgrades to the mill. Port Townsend Paper Corp. produces kraft pulp, paper, containerboard, and specialty products by blending virgin and recycled fibers.
