The 2015 Tissue360° Forum (sponsored by Toscotec) is being held Monday afternoon through Wednesday, April 20-22, during PaperCon in Atlanta, Ga., USA. Altogether, this year’s program features 11 sessions that examine the latest global technology developments and process innovations as well as the chemicals/additives and process control sides of the industry. Brian Hayes of Siemens is the 2015 program chair for the Tissue360° Forum. 

Monday’s lead-off T1 session at 1:30 pm begins with a report by Soile Kilpi of Pöyry Management Consulting North America on market trends and industry actions in the North American tissue sector. Following her presentation, Dick Arnold, CEO/president of Gorham Paper and Tissue, will explore his company’s struggle to implement a new-approach production strategy and create a profitable partnership with distributor Central National-Gottesman, in terms of the plan, the people, and the results. Warren Pullen, EVP of Central National-Gottesman, joins Arnold as co-presenter in this two-part package presentation. 

Part one examines the mill’s past failures, recent successes, current and future investment goals, and its strong impact on the community of Gorham, N.H. Part two unravels the product distribution plan and updates its current progress on the path to success.

    

Beginning at 3:30 p.m., Session T2, the first of two special sessions focused on process equipment innovations, looks at brand new developments currently in the implementation stage and on the drawing board, including flexible technology for next-generation tissue makers and a new generation of shoe presses for tissue. 

Tuesday’s Session T3 on Chemistry and Additives for Process Improvement from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. reports on advances in fiber surface chemistry and internal additives for tissue production as well as advancements in refining technology for today’s tissue machines. The second session on process innovations (T4) from 10:30 a.m. until noon focuses on getting yankee chatter under control, yankee hood "cascading" vs "parallel" operating mode, and embedded sensors and grooving in tissue machine press rolls. 

The Tuesday afternoon T5 session, being jointly conducted with NETInc, from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. explores the nonwovens interaction with tissue in the manufacture of bioactive tissue and antimicrobial products. Four tissue experts are participating in the T6 panel discussion from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on troubleshooting and optimizing drives and controls.

Wednesday’s Session T7 on Process Control for Tissue from 8;00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. examines a complete tissue production improvement system, online measurement and control of tissue weight using infrared technology, imaging-based on-line measurement of crepe structure, and new on-machine instrumentation that ensures operator safety, saves energy, and extends felt life. Session T8 from 10:30 a.m. to noon is a yankee doctor blade vibration panel discussion with five expert participants.

Following lunch, Session T9 on product innovations, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., examines the tissue product development process and coreless tissue rolls. Session T10 from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., investigates tissue structure and analytical tools. It includes presentations on analysis of the engineered structure of tissue and towel papers using 2D and 3D radiographic, tactile, and instrumental characterization of tissue products, and a creping mechanics model.

The T11 wrap-up session for 2015 Tissue360° Forum Wednesday afternoon from 5;00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. completes this year’s Tissue360° Forum.
