Portugal-Based Enerpellets Group to Build $60 Million Wood Pellet Plant in Florida

According to a report released earlier this month by Bioenergy Insight, Surrey, U.K., Portugal-based wood pellet producer Enerpellets Group has decided to build a 250,000 metric tpy wood pellet production plant in Hamilton County, Fla., USA, costing an estimated $60 million (EUR 52.5 million).

The decision was made following a period of analysis and evaluation, which was supported by Enerpellets' experience gained operating two existing plants in Portugal.

According to Enerpellets, the U.S. is an advantageous location in which to expand its wood pellet business due to the availability of raw materials, the cost of electricity, and excellent rail and port infrastructure.

Project implementation will begin in the third quarter of this year, with production expected to start during 2016.
