In Memoriam: Robert Terry Campbell

The TAPPI community is saddened to announce the passing of one of its long time members, Robert Terry Campbell. Known to friends family and colleagues as Terry, he was very active in the southeastern U.S. pulp and paper industry and was known to many who worked with him even after his retirement.

A Mississippi native, Terry Campbell graduated from Belzoni High School, Mississippi College, and the University of North Carolina. Upon graduation from college, Terry moved his young family to Mobile, Ala., in 1959 and was hired at International Paper as a research chemist. While living in Mobile, Terry was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School class teacher, and church leader for many years.

Terry and his wife Melite moved to Big Canoe in 1998, following his retirement from International Paper Co. He and Melite were delighted with their new community and quickly became active in many community events and organizations. Terry became a faithful member of the church choral group and the men's chorus and served as chairman of the board of trustees for Big Canoe Chapel. After the death of Melite, Terry became involved with Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center in Jasper, Ga., and the Stephen's Ministry group.

In 2010, Terry married Anne Martin of Clinton, Miss., and brought his new bride to Big Canoe. Anne readily and eagerly joined Terry in becoming a part of the community.

Terry is preceded in death by his wives Melite Bain Campbell and Anne Martin Campbell, his daughter Lisa Campbell Bradfield and his parents Terry Hicks and Francis Love Campbell. He is survived by; children and spouses Karen and Tom Williams of Alpharetta, Ga., and Rick Bradfield of Waco, Tex.; grandson Rob Bradfield of Waco, Tex.; and step-children and spouses Carol Anne and Michael Beane of Bartlett, Tenn., Jim and Rene Martin of Clinton, Miss., and Elaine Barber of Austin Tex.; step- grandchildren and spouses Hedda and Noe Elias, Allison and Jared Vieth, Emily and Seth Cheatham, Jared Beane, Wells Barber, Ryan Martin, Jessica and Bill Lehmann, and Warren Beane; and great grandchildren Nina Simone Elias, Abbi Lehmann, Tabitha Lehmann, and Jace Vieth.
