New Method for Remote Mapping of Bio-Mass

 
Research into LiDAR, or laser based remote mapping of forests for their biomass properties, is the subject of an upcoming article in Methods in Ecology and Evolution magazine. The new technology allows remote, 3-D viewing and recording of forest inventory, which the authors of this recent experiment note could be of great use to both industry and state agencies that remain "in-the-dark" about knowing the exact properties of carbon sinks and above ground bio-mass potential in forests across the planet.
 
This new tool is designed to note carbon stock, carbon changes, as well as energy potential across large sections of land, including in managed forests where eucalyptus is farmed for use in bioenergy projects.
