The Chronical Journal, Ontario, Canada, reported this past week that Fort Frances, Ont., Mayor Roy Avis is pushing the province to do more to ensure the community’s idled pulp mill remains a valuable asset. With temperatures dropping, the town is asking the province to pay the costs of heating the mill this winter and to confirm that the traditional wood supply for the facility remains intact.

 

The requests are contained in a letter from Avis to Natural Resources and Forestry Minister Bill Mauro. It was sent following a meeting this week aimed at finding solutions to reopening the idled mill owned by Resolute Forest Products.

 

Although Mauro didn’t respond directly to Avis’ requests, he said Friday that "we will continue to work with the community of Fort Frances to see if there are any viable solutions."
