BillerudKorsnäs Machine Remodeling Further Improves Cartonboard

BillerudKorsnäs, Sweden, reports that its current generation of cartonboard already meets stringent requirements of upmarket packaging solutions. But extensive remodeling of the board machine at its Frövi/Rockhammar mill in Sweden, the company adds, has opened up possibilities to tweak the properties of its high-performance cartonboard material further, especially in terms of appearance and printability.

Referring to the board machine remodeling, Magnus Levinsson, business segment director of Cartonboard, noted that "it is more than just a general upgrade. This is the next generation cartonboard, one that sets new standards for printability. We have made the print surface more even and applied a triple coating. This contributes to reduced white top mottling and improved color printing. You get more even print, more vibrant color, a wider color gamut, and more life-like color reproduction. Furthermore, the new cartonboards offer improved quality consistency, which means that you can expect excellent results at all times."

BillerudKorsnäs offers a range of four highly specialized cartonboard grades for brand owners in market segments such as luxury beverages, fine foods, perfume, chocolate, and health and beauty products:

"The launch is a big, complex process, that also includes grammage extensions," said Levinsson. "The new product benefits will be most apparent in Carry and Light. Besides the improved properties, the remodelling of the board machine ensures increased capacity."
