P&W Paper Shipments in U.S. Remain Flat
Total printing and writing (P&W) paper shipments in the U.S. were flat in September compared with September 2012, down 0.2%, according to the AF&PA (Washington, D.C., USA) September 2013 Printing-Writing Paper Report issued this past week. AF&PA notes, however, that U.S. trade data were not available at the time of the report due to an interruption in government reporting.
Additional key findings of the report include:
- September coated free sheet (CFS) shipments were essentially flat compared with September 2012, with year-to-date shipments through September within 1% of 2012 levels.
- Uncoated free sheet (UFS) shipments increased in September, the second year-over-year increase in the past three months. For the year, shipments are down 3% in 2013.
- September uncoated mechanical (UM) paper shipments increased 3% year-over-year in September, the first year-over-year increase since March 2011.
- Coated mechanical (CM) shipments in September decreased 4% compared with September 2012. Shipments of CM are down 10% for the year.
