Rottneros Mill to Continue Producing Groundwood Pulp

The Rottneros Group, Stockholm, Sweden, says that it will continue to produce groundwood pulp at its Rottneros Mill in Sweden. The initiative to improve the groundwood mill's process has resulted in the mill producing and marketing a new grade with properties that are particularly attractive to board manufacturers, the company explains.

The board of Rottneros announced in May 2012 that it had entered into negotiations concerning the termination of continuous groundwood pulp production at the Rottneros Mill. Negotiations, which were concluded in mid-year, resulted in the organization having to reduce its staff by around 50 posts. Twenty or so employees are now being offered continued work.

Rottneros noted that it plans to produce between 40,000 and 50,000 metric tons of groundwood pulp in 2013, made up of the new board grade as well as current printing paper grades.

Rottneros is an independent producer of market pulp. The group includes the parent company Rottneros AB and its subsidiaries Rottneros Bruk AB and Vallviks Bruk AB, with operations involving the production and sale of market pulp. The group also includes the wood procurement company Rottneros Baltic SIA in Latvia. Rottneros has around 298 employees and had a turnover of approximately SEK 1.5 billion in the 2011 financial year.
