TAPPI member Mike O'Bryan, was born July 24, 1947, in New Bern, N.C., the son of the late Anne Craegh and Robert Carl O'Bryan. O'Bryan grew up in Pollocksville, N.C., and graduated from Jones Central High School in 1965. He was an alumni of UNC-Chapel Hill where he graduated in 1969.
O'Bryan built a distinguished sales career for more than 40 years with Burlington Industries, Lowenstein of Rock Hill, Sequa Chemical, and Eastman. He was awarded the Eastman Everest Award in 2009 for excellence in sales. He was devoted to his family, enjoyed the game of golf, and loved the Tar Heels. O'Bryan is survived by his wife Marian, his son Douglas, and his two granddaughters Grace and Charlotte.
