Cascades Starts up New ATMOS Tissue Line at Candiac Mill in Quebec

Cascades Inc., Kingsey Falls, Que., Canada, reports that it has started up PM 2 at Candiac, Que., becoming the first North American tissue manufacturer to adopt the Voith (Germany) ATMOS (Advanced Tissue Molding System) technology. The new technology reportedly will allow the Candiac mill to produce tissue products with reduced recycled fiber, water, energy, and chemical products.

The company said that the project involves an investment of more than $30 million, with Investissement Quebec, a provincial industrial financing agency, contributing some $4.9 million. In the next few weeks, Cascades noted that it will add a new line of "TAD equivalent" Ultra bathroom tissue (produced on PM 2) to its existing Enviro line.

"Since its foundation, and well before it became in fashion, Cascades believed in sustainable development.
