Fibria, São Paulo, Brazil, reportedly is continuing efforts to secure forestlands that will support a second pulp line at its Tres Lagoas mill in the Mato Grfosso do Sul State, Brazil. The company is planning the Tres Lagoas II production line for startup in 2014 – 2016. It will have an initial, expandable production capacity of 1.5 million metric tpy and will cost an estimated BRL 5.8 billion (approximately $3.3 billion). The mill’s existing Tres Lagoas I line has a 1.3 million metric tpy capacity.
Some 150,000 hectares of forest timberlands will be needed to support the expansion, half which would come from Fibria’s forests and half from outside, privately owned forests. The company plans to invest some BRL1.8 billion (approximately $737 million) to expand its forest base.
