China Pulp Imports are slowing down, according to China's General Administration of Customs. The Administration reports that its import of pulp slowed significantly in November. Some 960,000 metric tons of pulp we exported by the Chinese paper industry, representing a decrease of 47,000 metric tons from October's import total. During the first 11 months of 2009, China's pulp imports rose 44% year-on-year, totaling 12.67 million metric tons. The country also imported 270,000 metric tons of paper and paperboard in November, about the same amount as October. However, this represents a decline of 9.2% during the first 11 months compared with 2008. Approximately 2.99 million metric tons of paper was imported by China through November.
