TAPPI Board of Directors member and TAPPI Fellow, Don Haag, will be retiring as Vice President — Manufacturing Services of Packaging Corporation of America (PCA), effective April 3, 2020. Don has been an employee of PCA for 40 years. He started his career at PCA as a management trainee at the Harrisonburg, Virginia, full-line facility.

Don held various supervisor and management positions at multiple PCA locations which gained him the title of General Manager at the Ashland, Ohio, full-line plant and the Akron sheet plant in 1989. Under his outstanding leadership, the two plants were repeatedly recognized as Plant of the Year, and in an unprecedented run, the team at Ashland scored a “three–peat” by being named Plant of the Year in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Through Don’s astounding track record, he was promoted to Vice President and Area General Manager in 2007 and then to Vice President — Manufacturing Services in 2012.

Don’s successes have been recognized with PCA’s Leadership Award in 2015 and his induction as a TAPPI Fellow. He is a member of PCA’s Ironman Club (class of 1998).

Looking back, Don is proud to have begun his career with PCA in direct plant operations as a Plant Supervisor. He values this personal experience on the “front lines” of the box business and recognizes the impact of each and every employee has on the success of the organization.

In retirement, Don is looking forward to spending time with his wife Denise, children, four grandchildren (ages 3 to 11), boating and skiing on Apple Valley Lake in central Ohio. He and Denise plan to travel and continue to give back to their local community organizations including the Ashland Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, the Ashland Community Involvement Corporation, the Ashland Family YMCA and the Samaritan Regional Health System.

We celebrate Don’s legacy at PCA and wish him the best in retirement and in the years to come.
