The Appleton Post Crescent reports that those employed in the paper industry gathered last week for their annual awards dinner. The event, previously known as the Hall of Fame Dinner, was renamed “Honors on the River” with the subhead “Celebrating the stars of the past and the bright lights of our future.”

Besides recognizing notables in the paper and related industries, the event at the Red Lion Hotel Paper Valley focused on the future of the paper business, including how to attract younger workers into careers in the industry.

“We want our legacy to inspire a new generation to greatness,” said event chair Peter Allen. “Our mission is to inspire a new generation by sparking interest in STEM/STEAM topics in a fun, hands-on and engaging way.”

STEM refers to science, technology, engineering and math. STEAM is the same plus art, Allen said.

The event included a silent auction, photo booth, wine pull, presentation of the Doug Dugal Scholarship Award and a buffet dinner. The recipient of the Doug Dugal award was Jessica Tocco, a pulp and paper student from Western Michigan University, currently interning at Kimberly-Clark in Jenks, OK.
