Considered the premier technical event for the pulping and paper industry, TAPPI’s Pulping, Engineering, Environmental, Recycling and Sustainability (PEERS) Conference, October 27-30 in St. Louis, MO, offers mills insight into the latest advances in technology, as well as fundamental process knowledge and potential solutions to control issues they face each day.

This fall, attendees will have the opportunity to attend one of the three popular workshops taking place on Sunday, October 27th. These full-day workshops provide in-depth knowledge on improving efficiencies, process optimization, and cutting costs in three critical areas of mill operations: Bleach Plant Operations, Brownstock Washing, and Project Management. Participants will leave with valuable skills and tools they can apply immediately at work.

Bleach Plant Operations Workshop
Last offered two years ago, the popular Bleach Plant Operations Workshop includes discussions of operation parameters, process optimization, and newly available technologies and equipment designs. Industry experts from consulting, chemical suppliers and equipment manufacturers will lead discussions about best practices and cutting-edge technologies of bleach plant operations. This workshop will be led by Brian N. Brogdon of Future Bridge Consulting Services, LLC.

Brownstock Washing Workshop
This highly regarded workshop will provide basic operating and design principles associated with brownstock washing. Attendees will learn about the fundamental applications of displacement, extraction, and dilution washing as well as water use and reuse. They will also have the opportunity to engage in expert-led discussions on washing optimization, economics, and troubleshooting techniques. This informative workshop will be led by Robert (Bobby) Wilson of Applied Materials Solutions (AMS).

Project Management Workshop
This in-depth workshop will cover three critical areas: utilizing project controls software during outages; best practices when creating estimates for plant work; and best practices in project controls for capital work and operations and maintenance (O&M). In addition, the workshop will explore when the low bid is not necessarily the best bid and the importance of linking costs and schedules for capital and O&M work. This valuable workshop, organized by InEight, will feature Rick Deans, Executive Vice President at Industry Engagement, as the instructor.
