U.S. Jan. 2019 P&W Paper Production Report: Shipments Down MtM

According to the January 2019 Printing-Writing Monthly report from AF&PA or American Forest and Paper Association (Washington, D.C., USA) total printing-writing paper shipments decreased 8% in Jan. compared to Jan. 2018. Total P&W paper inventory levels increased 3% from Dec. 2018.
  • U.S. purchases of uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper decreased 7% in Jan. from the same month one year ago. The inventory level of UFS papers increased 2% in Jan. compared to Dec..
  • U.S. purchases of coated free sheet (CFS) papers decreased 2% in Jan. when compared to January 2018. Inventories meanwhile remained essentially flat compared to last month.
  • U.S. purchases of uncoated mechanical (UM) papers decreased 1% year-over-year in January. U.S. purchases of coated mechanical (CM) paper increased seven percent in Jan.. Inventory levels at the end of January when compared to Dec. increased for both grades of paper.
