On Feb. 1, Metsa Tissue (Sweden) began a review of mill operations being overseen by SVP of Operations Jari Tiura. As part of the operational review, the company will work to develop a new concept for building future tissue paper mills.
The review will aim to find out whether a new concept could boost quality, production efficiency, as well as provide for a more sustainable use of resources. The group will be conducting this review in cooperation with its equipment and automation system suppliers so as to provide a comprehensive proposal of current top technical capabilities and to have an accurate as possible view of all future possibilities on the near-term horizon.
- The possibility of building a mill that uses absolutely no petro-chemicals or fossil fuels whatsoever will be studied.
- Automation potential in full production will be studied alongside the current status and ability of mill systems and thus a development roadmap can be made to help achieve new goals.
- Concept development is reviewing all of the operations in a tissue mill including raw materials, production, and converting as well as dispatch and warehouse operations.
