QY Research (China) released new details profiling recent findings (study completed Oct. 2018) related to wood pulp for making paper and about the paper market (pulp AND paper market) to SBWIRE (New York, N.Y., USA) on Feb. 13 based on the research report titled "Global Paper and Pulp Market Insights to 2025".

Modern / Current wood fiber sources required for pulping are approximately 45% sawmill residue, 21% logs and chips, and now up to 34% recycled paper. Pulp is presently one of the most abundant raw materials worldwide.

BHK pulp is the main pulp product in the world as we head into the 2020s, accounting for 53% of the global production market while BSK pulp is the second dominant pulp type, accounting for 41% globally. BCTMP represents less than 5% of global total during the current period.
  • Although it has been on a downward trend due to the effect of digitalization for years, P&W paper still maintains its status as the primary use of wood pulp for paper products with approximately a 66% global share.
  • Global average price of paper pulp is in the falling volatility trend, from $712/kg in 2012 to $683 in 2016.
Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Finland, USA, Chile, and China are identified by QY as the seven key producers of paper pulp at present and heading into the 2020s. China is the largest consumption and import country of paper pulp products in the world in the past few years with their global market share approximately 33% in 2016. QY forecasts that China will keep the leading position during the next several years heading into the 2020s.

Other forecasts include that the global paper and pulp market size will increase to approximately $86.7 billion by 2025, from 63.3 billion in 2017 - a CAGR of 4.6% during the forecast period. In QY's study, 2017 was considered as the base year and 2018-2025 as the forecast period to estimate the market size for paper and pulp.
