The U.S. EPA (Washington, D.C. USA) this past month (Aug. 2018) announced that the administration department had released renewable identification number generation data for July, reporting that nearly 1.71 billion renewable identification numbers (RINs) were generated during July of 2018, including more than 26.35 million cellulosic RINs which have been included in bold-face in this text for easier identification of forest (cellulosic) industry relevant advances.

More than 26.35 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in July, bringing the net total for the first seven months of the year to 136.1 million. Since the beginning of the year, 5.85 million D3 RINs have been generated for ethanol, with 93.68 million generated for renewable compressed natural gas and 36.57 million generated for renewable liquefied natural gas. More than 116.94 million D3 RIN have been generated domestically, with 19.16 million generated by importers.

No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in July. During the first seven months of the year, a net total of 1.51 million D7 RINs were generated, including 1.5 million for cellulosic heating oil and 11,256 for cellulosic diesel. According to the EPA, 11,256 D7 RINs were generated domestically, with 1.5 million generated by importers.

Nearly six million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in the month of July, bringing the net total for the first seven months of 2018 to approximately 46-47 million RINs. Approximately1.37 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in July, bringing the net total for the first seven months of the year to 8.81 billion. Most, 8.68 billion, were generated for ethanol, with 135.04 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. More than 8.67 billion D6 RINs have been generated domestically, with 7.25 billion generated by importers and 135.04 million generated by foreign entities.

Nearly 309.92 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in July, bringing the net total for the first seven months of the year to nearly 2.07 billion. The majority, 1.65 billion, were generated for biodiesel, with 429.59 million generated for nonester renewable diesel and 1.52 million generated for renewable jet fuel. Nearly 1.73 billion D4 RINs have been generated domestically, with 130.63 million generated by importers and 222.81 million generated by foreign entities.

As of the close of July, the EPA estimates 11.13 billion RINs have been generated so far this year, with 415.3 million retired, 416.99 million locked and available and 10.3 billion unlocked and available.
