Kabel Premium P&P Contracts Pöyry for Advanced Thermo Mechanical Pulp Plant

Compelo Packaging (Johannesburg, South Africa) reported on Monday (Aug. 20, 2018) that Pöyry has been awarded a contract by Kabel Premium Pulp & Paper (KPPP) headquartered in Hagen, Germany to provide detailed engineering services assignment for a new advanced thermo mechanical pulp (ATMP) plant located in Hagen.

Under the contract, Pöyry will provide assignment which includes process engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical, automation and instrumentation engineering, as well as permitting engineering and project scheduling.

Employing approximately 540 people, Kabel Premium Pulp & Paper is engaged in producing paper on two paper machines at the Hagen site. Kabel plans to install Thermo Mechanical Pulp (TMP) at the paper mill for use as a raw material for paper production in addition to existing ground wood and virgin pulp.

However, the investment on new Advanced TMP (ATMP) plant, which produces ATMP from spruce wood chips exclusively, comes as Kabel seeks to ensure future demand for raw materials.

Kabel Premium Pulp & Paper managing director Burkhart said: "The installation of the new ATMP plant is a further step towards producing new sort of paper in a resource-friendly way. We trust that Pöyry is the right partner for this investment in the future of our company."

The new ATMP plant is expected to have production capacity of approximately 100,000 metric tpy.

Kabel produces paper for the most common printing techniques including rotogravure, rotation and sheet offset as well as for digital printing. The firm’s paper collections NeoPress G, TerraPress G and ArtiPress G are used for end products printed using the rotegravure technique. Additionally, the company’s TerraPress O and ArtiPress O paper lines are specially developed for the heatset web offset printing technique while the TerraPrint and TerraPrint Premium paper lines are developed for sheet-fed offset printing.

This past month (July 2018), Pöyry shared its expertise on pulp, paper, packaging, tissue and associated industries in conferences in Asia.
