Rockwell & Manpower Team Up to Train Veterans in E&I

Industry training leaders Rockwell Automation and Manpower Group have taken a trailblazing role to address the challenges faced by returning Veterans and to tackle an industry need for talent. This one-of-a-kind program strengthens Veterans’ skill sets in advanced automation in a program specifically tuned to meet industry’s needs.

STEM and Robotics - Rockwell Automation has made a concerted effort to increase interest in STEM and Robotics throughout the USA. Their goal is to develop future leaders by getting them excited about Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics through Robotics. The same is true with this Academy of Advanced Manufacturing training program. It is a unique service that treats returning Veterans with dignity and respect and helps them re-enter civilian life in roles that are important to every manufacturer in North America. These returning Veterans make a significant investment in time and commitment to a 3-month program, and are re-entering the workforce with a skill set that practically every manufacturing and engineering center could use. 

Rockwell Automation & Manpower brought together an impressive Advanced Manufacturing program that takes returning Veterans through an extensive hands-on training program. Entitled Academy of Advanced Manufacturing (AAM), this 12-week course is aimed at creating and building out returning veterans’ troubleshooting skill sets that prepare them as disciplined, trained and certified instrument and controls technicians that can hit the ground running in many manufacturing roles.  

Here are the highlights of this program: 
Background – Closing the Skills Gap by Creating Job-Ready Talent:
  • 175,000 veterans leave the military each year
  • Rockwell researched & validated shortages needed to fill critical technology-based manufacturing roles
  • Teamed up with Manpower to provide a global scope and innovation
  • E&I Techs are #9 hardest to fill list, take 70-120 days & are expected to have a 2MM shortage by 2025
  • Training costs are escalating. Time to train a productive employee is 3 to 24 months with high turnover.
  • Maturing workforce – 21% mfg workers will retire in next 8-yrs, 24% are over 55, rapid evolution of new skills will be needed over the next 2-years
  • Cost to hire and train technician talent ranges from $65K to $146K per person.
