Enzymatic Deinking Technologies, LLC Seeks Research & Development Scientist

Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate for the Research Scientist position will be required to design, develop, and implement hypothesis-driven experiments related to enzyme applications in the pulp and papermaking process, and to provide technical support for current and new product trials and applications in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This role requires a highly organized mind and a rigorous, disciplined approach to the scientific method.

Leads project teams to conduct studies of enzymes and paper chemical additives with a strong understanding of fundamental theory and practice
Writes reports on R&D projects and prepares/delivers presentations to management providing an overview and recommendations/solutions
Performs customer field-based experiments aimed at better understanding and improved application of EDT products for best performance
Develops new or improves laboratorial protocols to evaluate enzymes and chemical additives related to EDT’s business
Handles complex assignments and performs laboratory experiments requiring considerable technical expertise, such as the use of DOE and other statistical software
Interfaces with technical, marketing, and sales personnel to identify new technologies and product opportunities
Develops and assists with new product launches

Job Qualifications:

Technical knowledge
Demonstrated broad knowledge in the area of pulp and paper science and technology or cellulose & polymer chemistry is ideal; Knowledge and experience in one or more of these areas are also acceptable:  enzymology, surface chemistries, biological research development, painting, coatings or polymer science
Experience is required in collaborating with other R&D groups as well as developing and commercializing new products
Comfortable with hands-on laboratory work and directing chemists and scientists to achieve both short- and long-term R&D objectives
Computer/instrumental skills
Spreadsheet, word processing, graphics presentation generation
Experimental design and statistical analysis
Adept at utilizing chemistry laboratory instruments and interpreting/analyzing results
Interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently or as part of a team; willingness to share research outcome and teach others
Listening and understanding stated and implied issues and concerns
Persuasive communication skills
Effective e-mail and voice-mail communication
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, adept at building relationships in a multi-cultural workforce
Time management and organizational skills
Adaptability and flexibility in supporting the varied needs of a growing company

Education Requirements:
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in pulp and paper science and technology, chemistry, chemical engineering or enzymology; or other Life Science disciplines
  • 3-7 years of chemistry laboratory or industrial experience;
knowledge and working experience in polymer chemistry and paper chemical additives is preferred
