Thimm Group Starts up E-Commerce Business for Corrugated Boxes

With the startup, Cartonara, the Thimm family business, has laid the foundation for its digital business models. The German online shop opened in March 2018 for both commercial and private customers. It sells standardized packaging made of corrugated board and value-added accessories for the optimum distribution of goods.  

The range of the new e-commerce platform showcases the packaging expertise of the Thimm Group founded back in 1949. In addition to standardized cardboard boxes, folding bottom boxes, and corrugated cardboard shipping packaging, it also sells removal materials and accessories such as sealing methods, cushioning and filler materials. The range will be progressively extended and enhanced over the next few months with small load carriers, innovative packaging for e-commerce, and customized corrugated boxes. 

Online customers will have their orders delivered directly from the warehouse which means that as a rule they are delivered the following day. All common payment methods are accepted on the e-commerce platform.

 

 

"Cartonara is Thimm Group’s first digital business model for packaging," explains Michael Weber, who is one of the managing directors of Cartonara. "We have created a new distribution channel to offer a solutions platform specifically for small and medium enterprises but also for private customers. Our online customers will benefit from the synergies of the entire Thimm Group. All the packaging originates from our established production plants which are underpinned by efficient processes, high quality commitments, agile packaging developments, and cost and logistics optimizations. We work in an efficient team that includes search engine marketing specialists, business development experts, and e-commerce collaboration partners."

As a 100% integrated company, Cartonara GmbH + Co. KG is a new company within the Thimm corporate group. Online sales in Germany will be run under the Kartonara brand. The startup was created at the end of 2017. Its head office is in Northeim. 

Kornelius Thimm and Michael Weber were appointed managing directors. 

Cartonara is a business division of the Northeim-based Thimm Group and since March 2018 has been supporting the company’s positioning in the e-commerce market. Thimm Group is a solutions provider for the packaging and distribution of goods. Its portfolio includes corrugated board transportation and sales packaging, promotional displays, packaging systems combining a range of materials and print products for further industrial processing. The company’s product offerings are further enhanced by a wide range of associated packaging services covering the entire supply chain. 

The family-owned business has more than 3,000 employees at 19 sites in Germany, Czech Republic, Romania, Poland, and Mexico, and generates annual revenues of around EUR 570 million.
