U.S. Packaging Paper Shipments Decline 9.5% y/y in January

Total U.S. packaging paper shipments in January 2018 were 219,200 tons, 9.5 %, lower than January 2017, according the AF&PA (Washington, D.C., USA) January 2018 U.S. Packaging Papers & Specialty Packaging Monthly report released this past week. 

Bag & Sack shipments were down 13.4% month-over-month and Multiwall shipments were down 19.0%. Food Wrapping shipments were up 0.4%. The operating rate for January was 84.3%, the second lowest during the past 13 months. Inventories were 171,800 tons, up 3.6% since December 2017.
