TAPPI Industry Career Center: IP Seeks Electrical Reliability Engineer

The Electrical Reliability Engineer will primarily focus on improving equipment reliability across the facility and leading implementation of IP’s nine sub-elements of reliability. A successful candidate will have knowledge of motors, VFDs, EPD, Electric Drives Control System and industrial electrical technology. The position reports to the Maintenance & Reliability Business Unit Manager. 
 
Responsibilities include:
  • Eliminating failures that restrict or stop production
  • Supporting the enterprise effort to reduce year-over-year constrained area downtime by 15%
  • Being an active leader at the mill for IP’s Global Manufacturing System (GMS) Reliability Element and Sub-Elements
  • Increasing the life of mill’s assets using cost effective solutions.
  • Serving as the mill EPD Champion and Motor Champion
  • Working with the area Operations and Maintenance staff to implement effective strategic maintenance initiatives that support achievement of reliability goals, objectives, key performance metrics, maintenance cost objectives, and capital projects execution.
  • Providing systemic interventions to improve the overall reliability of all equipment, not just a gradual improvement one piece of equipment at a time.
  • Project management for Capital Projects in assigned area(s).
  • Performing root cause failure analysis on reliability incidents to identify and correct physical, human, and latent root causes especially for chronic reliability problems
  • Seeking out and implement best practices using teams, databases, vendors, and other technical resources
  • Identifying and implementing capital solutions for reliability opportunities
  • Working within manufacturing work systems (MWS) process to analyze work notifications to ensure the right jobs are worked at the right time and assist with the planning of complex work orders to achieve reliability targets
  • Providing backup and relief for Electrical Maintenance Front Line Leader
  • Developing and maintaining asset criticalities, equipment care strategies, and maintenance policies for all equipment with emphasis on critical equipment
  • Fulfill weekend duty team role for Maintenance.
Qualifications include:
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent professional work experience is required
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with reliability improvement methods, technologies, and tools.
  • Experience leading or implementing reliability improvements in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with predictive maintenance tools.
  • Experience and knowledge of maintenance planning and scheduling practices.
